In The Swim Pool Granular pH Reducer

In the Swim Granular Pool pH Reducer is easy-to-use and dissolves fast. Maintaining proper pH and alkalinity balance is key to a pool’s health. pH balance is how acidic or basic the water is. The pH scale is 0-14, and pools & spas should range between 7.2 – 7.6 with an ideal level of 7.4. Alkalinity helps to stabilize the pH balance in your pool. Alkalinity range for pools and spas should be between 80 – 120 ppm. If the pH and alkalinity balance fluctuate high or low, you may experience negative side effects.

The first step to maintaining proper pH and Alkalinity is completing a water test. Water can be tested with a DPD/OTO droplet test kit, water test strips, or digital testing. Once a water test has been completed, we want to begin with alkalinity. Alkalinity is the buffer for the pH. If alkalinity is high, use granular pool pH reducer to adjust the alkalinity between 80-120ppm*. Once your alkalinity is within range, adjust the pH.

Now, re-test the water. If the pH is above 7.6, add 1.5 lbs per 10,000 gallons. Measure out the suggested product amount per water volume. Add pH reducer to a chemical-safe container and mix with at least 1 gallon of water to dissolve. Pour the mixture around the perimeter of the pool. The circulation system should be running during this process.

Test the water again after 3-4 hours. Repeat as needed until pH and alkalinity are within desired range.

Treating Water TestTreating Water Test

Alkalinity is the buffer or stabilizer for your pool or spa pH. Alkalinity is measured in parts per million (ppm). An ideal alkalinity range is between 80 – 120 ppm. If the Alkalinity is below 80 ppm, we recommend In The Swim Pool Alkalinity Increaser. If your Alkalinity is above 120 ppm, In The Swim Pool pH reducer will do the trick. Alkalinity over 120 ppm may cause the water to cloud up and cause scale to form. Alkalinity under 80 ppm will cause the pH to move freely on its scale. This can damage the pool or equipment over time with corrosion.

pH is the measure of the acidity in a pool. If the alkalinity is out of range, pH has the capability to move freely on it’s scale (0-14). This may cause the pool water to quickly become either acidic or basic. If the pH is low, we recommend adding In The Swim Granular Pool pH increaser. If the pH is very high, add In The Swim Granular Pool pH reducer. Low pH can cause corrosion to the pool and equipment. It is also uncomfortable feel for hair, eyes, and skin. If the pH is high, the water can start forming scale build up.

Even after all preparations, life happens and your pool or spa can get away from you. In those moments, we need to start back from the beginning with testing the water. The ranges for Alkalinity are 80-120 ppm, pH scale is 0-14 with a range of 7.2 – 7.6 and an ideal of 7.4. If alkalinity is low after testing, we recommend adding In the Swim Pool Alkalinity Increaser. If the alkalinity is high, add In The Swim Pool pH Reducer.

Now that the Alkalinity is within proper range, you can now balance pH. If the pH is low, meaning the water is acidic, add In The Swim Granular Pool pH Increaser. If the pH level is high, add In The Swim Pool Granular pH Reducer.

Q: How much should I use to lower my pH?A: In The Swim recommends a dosage of 1.5 lbs per 10,000 gallons.

Q: What is the chemical name for pH reducer?A: pH reducer is often called Sodium Bisulfate.

Q: What is the ideal pH level for my pool?A: Your pH level should be between 7.2 – 7.6 units. Ideal level is at 7.4.

Q: Why should I be concerned with the pH level?A: Low pH balance can cause corrosion, damaged vinyl, plaster, pipes, while deteriorating other surfaces and pool equipment as well. Low pH can also result in bather eye and skin irritation. A high pH balance may cause scale build up on the interior surface, plumbing, and equipment. This will slow the flow rate and circulation rate of the pool.
