In The Swim Pool Alkalinity Increaser

In The Swim Pool Alkalinity Increaser is a fast dissolving, easy to use powder for all types of pools and spas. Proper Alkalinity and pH balance is key to maintaining healthy pool or spa water. Alkalinity helps to stabilize the pH balance in your pool. Alkalinity range for pools and spas should be between 80 – 120 ppm, ideally at 100 ppm. The pH scale is 1-14, and pool and spas should be between 7.2 – 7.6, ideally at 7.4. If the pH and Alkalinity balance fluctuates too high or low, you can experience negative side effects.

The first step to maintaining proper Alkalinity is completing a water test. Water can be tested with a DPD/OTO droplet test kit, water test strips, or digital testing. Once a water test has been completed, start by adjusting Alkalinity, the buffer for pH. If the alkalinity level is low, add In the Swim Pool Alkalinity Increaser at a rate of 1½ pounds per 10,000 gallons.

Pour the Alkalinity increaser in to a chemical-safe container and mix with at least 9 parts of water to dissolve. Pour the mixture around the perimeter of the pool/spa. The circulation system should be running. Test the water again after 3-4 hours. Repeat as needed until Alkalinity is within the desired range.

Alkalinity

Alkalinity is the buffer or stabilizer for your pool or spa pH. Alkalinity is measured in parts per million (ppm). An ideal alkalinity range is between 80 – 120 ppm. If the Alkalinity is below 80 ppm, we recommend In The Swim Pool Alkalinity Increaser. If your Alkalinity is above 120 ppm, In The Swim Pool pH reducer will do the trick. Alkalinity over 120 ppm may cause the water to cloud up and cause scale to form. Alkalinity under 80 ppm will cause the pH to move freely on its scale. This can damage the pool or equipment over time with corrosion.

pH

pH is the measure of the acidity in a pool. If the alkalinity is out of range, pH has the capability to move freely on it’s scale (0-14). This may cause the pool water to quickly become either acidic or basic. If the pH is low, we recommend adding In The Swim Granular Pool pH increaser. If the pH is very high, add In The Swim Granular Pool pH reducer. Low pH can cause corrosion to the pool and equipment. It is also uncomfortable feel for hair, eyes, and skin. If the pH is high, the water can start forming scale build up.

Treatment

Even after all preparations, life happens and your pool or spa can get away from you. In those moments, we need to start back from the beginning with testing the water. The ranges for Alkalinity are 80-120 ppm, pH scale is 0-14 with a range of 7.2 – 7.6 and an ideal of 7.4. If alkalinity is low after testing, we recommend adding In the Swim Pool Alkalinity Increaser. If the alkalinity is high, add In The Swim Pool pH Reducer.

Now that the Alkalinity is within proper range, you can now balance pH. If the pH is low, meaning the water is acidic, add In The Swim Granular Pool pH Increaser. If the pH level is high, add In The Swim Pool Granular pH Reducer.

FAQ’s

Q: What level should my alkalinity level be?A: Proper alkalinity for pool/spa should be between 80 – 120 ppm, with an ideal of 100 ppm.

Q: What is the chemical name for Alkalinity Increaser?A: In The Swim Pool Alkalinity Increaser is 100% Sodium Bicarbonate.

Q: When would I use Alkalinity Increaser?A: Use In The Swim Alkalinity Increaser when your pool/spa alkalinity drops below 80 ppm.

Q: Does alkalinity affect pH?A: Yes, Alkalinity is the buffer for your pH. If you don’t have a strong buffer for your pH, the pH will swing high and low. This will cause the water in the pool to either become more acidic or more basic. Both are bad in a pool environment. It’s all about being balanced.
